Mentorships provide a transformational experience, tailored to your dream and goals, where you have full access to me and where I can guide you through design and/or and business & brand strategy to empower you into the next level of your floral practice.
People who come for a Mentorship with me are professional floral designers and also brand new flower enthusiasts, people doing flowers as a career and people creating with flowers just for personal joy and expansion, and pretty much everyone in between as well. Flowers call to a lot of us, and good thing: the world needs more beauty, hope, and connection with one another and the natural world!
In a Mentorship, we work one-on-one to build your next level, step, pivot, or path, and I guide you with all of my years of experience and expertise in the field across its many facets, from business to design processes to building a brand experience that brings success and meaning into your life and into the lives of your clients.
As someone in my inner circle here, I love to empower you with tools and resources that can inspire your next moves too! Here are three of the most essential and holistically empwoering strategies I teach all of my mentees:
1. ON BUSINESS:
Authenticity Creates Success & Sustainability.
What size and shape this work should take is completely up to you, and when you clarify for yourself your authentic vision, which I am here to help you do, the work becomes effortless because it is full of purpose and it is fully aligned for you.
You may want to create with flowers full time as a wedding & event floral designer, or, you may want to start a flower shop, do pop-up events from a flower truck or cart, or create flowers for your own table or for friends and neighbors whenever you have time to share your art.
You don’t have to make someone else’s mold fit your life. In fact, that path leads to frustration, inefficiency with your time and energy, and often burnout. Getting clear about what authentically excites you isn’t just to make this fun; it’s also to make this successful and sustainable for you, and really, that's most important of all!
2. ON DESIGN:
“If You Can Breathe, Your Flowers Can Breathe.”
This phrase is the one I say most often to all of my student designers. People come to learn how to create lush and airy designs, arrangements that are flower-heavy but feel effortless and natural, as though they gracefully grew there just like that.
The truth is, through my own work and through teaching and guiding hundreds of other floral designers, one thing I noticed consistently is that if your designs are turning out tight and heavy, it’s because you yourself feel tight and heavy. Your art is an extension of your body.
When you take a deep breath and relax, nourish your body with oxygen and the nervous system reassurance that comes from breathing, your ability to arrange flowers that can breathe and have room to feel airy and graceful returns too.
If you want your flowers to look like they have room to breathe, start with your own body, your creative instrument, where the arranging of flowers begins.
3. ON BRAND EXPERIENCE:
A Brand Is More Than A Business — It’s A Relationship.
That relationship is between you and your clients and customers. It is a home for a set of values and an energetic, emotional experience that you invite your clients to have and enjoy with you and with your services. A brand is where your clients can get to know you and see if they would be a good fit with you because they find in your branding how to connect with you, what you value, how you will “host” them so to speak, and what makes you the one they trust and want to go with on a journey to what they are seeking.
In order to have a genuine and impactful brand experience, I advise my mentees to leverage & utilize your passions, areas of expertise, and previous career chapters. These fascets outside of your floral work enrich your floral work, inform how you design and show what matters to you, and they bring texture and color into your business’s “home” where you host your clients.
I myself brought my background in creative writing and storytelling, my graduate work in narrative and poetry, along with my studies in yoga, healing, and wellbeing techniques to create a brand that creates poetry with flowers and serves all of my clients with a holistic approach that considers the creative, the mind, soul, and body, in the experience of working with me.
Look at your life. Look at what you love and have studied or become an expert in over the years. These tributaries feed the river of your business and brand experience. Use them! Bring them in! This makes you you and sets you apart from others. It also makes you uniquely relatable to your ideal clients and customers.
Wherever you are in your floral journey, keep going. Reach out for support, and find and allow yourself to receive the creative and strategic nourishment you need. Your gifts deserve the space and guidance (both!) to expand and flourish. You deserve a meaningful creative outlet and a fulfilling channel through which to serve the world.
